A Snapshot of US Airways, Inc. (Formerly USAir)
Headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, US Airways, Inc. operated major hubs in Charlotte, Philadelphia, and Phoenix. Starting out in 1939 delivering air-mail under the name All-American Airways, US Airways steadily transformed over decades of mergers and business acquisitions until it became the fifth largest airline in the United States.
US Airways was a member of the Star Alliance network and operated flights in North America, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Europe, and the Middle East. Additional code-share partners include EVA Air, Hawaiian Airlines, Royal Jordanian, TACA and Virgin Atlantic.
Regional flights were operated by United Airways Express, under code-share agreement with US Airways. US Airways Express regional carriers included Mesa Airlines, PSA Airlines, Air Wisconsin Airlines, Republic Airlines, Chautauqua Airlines, Trans States Airlines, Piedmont Airlines and Colgan Airlines. In addition, US Airways Shuttle provided hourly service between Boston, Washington, DC, and New York.
US Airways (including US Airways Express and US Airways Shuttle) operated more than 3,000 daily flights, and served 155 domestic and 44 international destinations. The airline employed more than 32,000 employees and served approximately 60 million passengers each year.
