On New Year’s Day 2023, acclaimed actor Jeremy Renner, best known for his role as “Hawkeye” in Marvel “Avengers” films, suffered traumatic injuries following a snowplow accident near Mount Rose Highway in Reno, Nevada near his Lake Tahoe home. The Paramount+ “Mayor of Kingstown” star, who has undergone two surgeries since the incident, experienced blunt chest trauma and extensive orthopedic injuries, according to a statement from his family. He is recovering in a Nevada hospital ICU in critical but stable condition.
The 51-year-old actor, who was plowing snow, was hospitalized after a “weather related accident,” according to his representative, Samantha Mast. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the emergency and Renner, who was the only person involved in the incident, was airlifted for treatment. According to the National Weather Service, the Washoe County area received up to 16 inches of snow between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
TMZ reportedly obtained details about the accident from Renner’s neighbor. The neighbor claims Renner was operating a Snowcat plowing machine to clear the road about a quarter mile from his home when it accidentally ran over one of his legs, causing him to lose a good deal of blood. Another neighbor, who is a doctor, assisted Renner by putting a tourniquet on his leg until first responders arrived. According to TMZ, the snowplow is equipped with “extensive safety features and should not have rolled over Jeremy.”
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office did not provide details on how the accident happened, but stated the incident is being investigated by its Major Accident Investigation Team.
