In February 2021, a congressional subcommittee published a baby food report detailing extremely high amounts of toxic heavy metals in U.S. baby food brands from:
Plum Organics
Gerber
Hain Celestial Group Inc. – Earth’s Best Organic
Nurture Inc. –Happy Family Organics and HappyBABY
Sprout Foods Inc.
Walmart Inc. – Parent’s Choice
Heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, and arsenic were found in substantial quantities in baby food that children every day across the U.S. are consuming. Importantly, this revelation was based upon internal testing done by baby food manufacturers themselves, and submitted to Congress.
Following the publication of that report and a subsequent public outcry, there was, in fact, a recall of one of the baby food products from the U.S. market. Manufacturer Beech-Nut recalled its baby food rice cereal and exited the rice cereal market, citing concerns over high levels of arsenic in the baby foods. Walmart issued a baby food recall just a few short months later.
