After several small planes crashes in residential neighborhoods, cause for concern is being raised in those communities closest to local airports. We know statistically that it is safer to fly than drive but if a different set of conditions are involved, like your home’s distance from an airport, the chances of an incident might be higher than you think. Aviation Attorney Paul Hedlund offered his insight about airplane crashes near the airport, pilot error, and controller error. Hedlund also believes these incidents are not coincidences, rather, that the smaller airports are uncontrolled, with no one determining flight patterns, and some pilots don’t abide by the rules.
